Hi hi! My name is Reggie. I’m a little Beagle/Fox Terrier mutt-i-gree (mixed breed), and I was born at North Shore Animal League America with my momma and my brothers and sisters. Momma was rescued from a kill-shelter when we were in her tummy, and she gave birth to us at the Animal League.
All my sisters and brothers are doing very well, thank you, but I have a little problem. I was born with abnormal hind limbs. Both my back legs have laterally luxating patellas, which is a common knee problem and cause of lameness in dogs. Sometimes when I walk, my kneecaps jump out of place and make me tumble over.
Because of this, the Animal League put me in a special program that helps save pets’ lives called the Help Me Heal Program. This special group makes sure that I get all the medical care I need for as long as I need it. They’ll do everything they can to make sure I have the healthiest, happiest life possible.
Right now, I’m only 8 weeks old, so I can’t get corrective surgery. I have to wait until my skeleton is mature, which should be when I’m about 6-8 months old. Then I may be a candidate for surgery or even multiple surgeries to help me walk correctly. If surgery doesn’t work, the Animal League will explore more options. Hopefully, the operation will be all the treatment I need, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
For now, I’m on a strict regimen of daily hugs and ’round the clock kisses. And I’m working out to try and strengthen my legs too! I exercise on a floor that has good traction so I don’t slide all over and hurt myself. The Animal League even found me a foster home that is set up all soft and cushioned – just for me.
I feel very lucky to be able to have such dedicated and compassionate people working so hard for me and other pets like me. The Animal League saves lives every day. Won’t you help by supporting the Help Me Heal Program?

hi i am a animals lover i read all your story and i feel so bad for the animals i really want to help but i cant my mom wont let me but i hope all the animals at the shelter feel better and reggie i hope you feel better and i am so glad north shore animals league american help all these poor animals and took real good care of these poor animals and i cant believe these bad people hurt these great animals i love animals and i read all your animals story and i cry because what these bad people did to these animals and i hope you read this thank you from melanie

Reggie is so adorable. I’m glad there is a place who takes care of animals as selflessly as NSAL. I’m putting my change in a little envelope for Reggie, and hope to donate before he is old enough to the surgery. I do have much to give, but I will give what I can.

I donated to Reggie’s cause last month. I do hope the surgeries help you, Reggie. You’re cute as a button and deserve all the love you can get. It just makes me cry to see what uneducated and selfish people can cause when they are dealing with lives! I wish there was more I could do!
Dear little Reggie-I have been following your story since I first read about you on the NSAL website….you are an amazing and special little guy!! I wish I could have more than one puppy in my apartment because you would get along so well with my Gracie, a boxer/beagle I adopted from Furry Bottoms rescue here in Wisconsin. I will keep praying for you and all other animals in need and will give as much as I can to help you heal!!
Hi Reggie, just came from reading your blog and commenting on what you wrote and how I think you’re sooo cute and that I love your blog! I had no idea, until now, you will need surgery for your hind legs and I’m sad and sorry to read this. However, I hope enough kind-hearted people will contribute to help with the surgery you’ll need… I would donate to help with that but I can’t just now because I have no money. But when you do have the surgery I will pray you recover real quick and finally find a loving home to call your own because you deserve that and more! Keep up the great work you’re doing NSAL (I adopted my older fur baby from your Port Washington shelter 12 years ago and I never regretted it).
